Marcato Atlas 150 Pasta Machine Review

Today we are reviewing one of our favorite kitchen tools. The Atlas 150 pasta maker by Marcato is one of the simplest, yet best pasta machines you can get if you want to start making delicious homemade pasta. The machine is made in Italy from stainless steel and if taken care of properly will last a long time.

 

The machine will roll the dough up to 150-milimters wide (hence the machine name – Atlas 150) with a range of thickness level that goes from 0.6 to 4.8 millimeters. The standard machine comes without any extra accessories, but these can be bought separately and easily attach to the machine.

 

There are 12 different pasta cutting accessories to make your favorite pasta such as Spaghetti, Pappardelle, Fettucine, Mafaldine, Capellini and more. If you wish to make Ravioli, all you need is to use the basic machine to make thin pasta and then use one of the Ravioli making tools to get the best results.

 

The machine has an external motor that can be purchased separately as well if you are not willing to do the manual work (although we believe that using the handle is part of the fun and the sense of achievement).

 

The machine is very easy to use and clean, and you can buy it in several different colors to match your kitchen design, other kitchen gadgets and style. We love the classic silver, red and blue but you can have in purple, yellow, black, orange and more.

 

When we tested the machine, we found it very user friendly and easy to use, with a simple basic pasta recipe you can start making your own homemade pasta quickly and easily. There is no need to have prior knowledge on how to make pasta or how to use the machine and short video guide (which you can find below) will do the trick and get you going.

 

Once done, just clean the machine with a cloth or a dry brush and store somewhere until the next you want to use it.

 

Using the different attachments and accessories is easy and convenient and takes about 30 seconds to connect. Just clip the attachment to the part of the machine and you are ready to go.

 

There are more accessories and gadgets you can buy to make your pasta making better and take it to the next level, but we feel that by getting the basic machine with an extra one or two attachments you are set to go.

 

Once you will make the first pasta you will realize it’s not as difficult and intimidating as you once thought, and you will start testing different types and experiment with the machine to get the best results for you.

 

Few extra tips:

  • Use a special 00 pasta flower

  • Use free range eggs

  • If the dough is too dry, add a bit of water, if too wet, add a bit of flour

  • Let the dough time to relax before using the machine

  • Flour the dough before running it through the machine

  • Dry the pasta for a while before cooking it (can check this pasta drying rack)

  • If you have any leftovers before cooking – Divide into portions, and freeze it in a zip lock bag, then when you want to it, just drop to boiling water for a minute and enjoy fresh pasta.

  • Don’t let the pasta wait for the sauce – Cook the sauce before and only then cook the pasta

  • Don’t overcook your pasta - Fresh pasta only needs few mins in boiling water (unlike shop bought dried pasta)

  • 400 grams 00 flour

  • 4 large free-range eggs
